Third Party Retailers (Buyer Beware), October 3, 2011 By This review is from: Samsung Galaxy S Wifi 5.0 Media Player (Electronics) Warning -- Buyer beware SGP 4.0 and 5.0 offers from recent 3rd party retailers on Amazon, eBay, etc. Because they are all now selling their imported SGP models whose warranties Samsung US will not honor. I think importers now realize that the US SGP release is actually going to happen and are now dropping prices close to re-confirmed prices above, e.g. SGP 5.0 model#=YP-G70CW/TTT for $269.99 which is a Korean SGP model with neither the HDMI port nor the TV antenna. I'm not saying that these sellers are doing anything wrong, just that they are selling models that Samsung US will NOT support if something goes wrong. Note that the US SGPs' full model numbers should end with the US "XAA" country code, e.g. SGP 5.0 model#=YP-G70CW/XAA and SGP 4.0 model#=YP-G1CW/XAA. (Source: redditgadgetguide)

Pleasantly Surprised, October 22, 2011 By Chuck V. (Atlanta) - See all my reviews This review is from: Samsung Galaxy S Wifi 5.0 Media Player (Electronics) I bought the YP-G70CW/TTT model Sep 2011 (which is the imported version indicated by the /TTT)from a daily deal type site for $169. It was understood that there was no warranty from Samsung, but the site provides a year of coverage. If you want the version with U.S. Warranty and Support, be sure to read the review below titled "Third Party Retailers (Buyer Beware)".
I researched my purchase on the web, and from others' experience with their Samsung Android Smart phones. I got the impression from their past performance, that Samsung may not update this operating system, which is currently Android Froyo 2.2, but it works well as it is. If they decide to upgrade, all the better. With all that in mind, I am still extremely pleased with my purchase.
I've had an ITouch 32GB 4th Generation I bought from Amazon a year ago, and it's the best electronic purchase I've ever made, the Samsung is a close 2nd. The larger screen on the Samsung is much easier to read and type with,... Read more

A very good player for the average consumer, October 15, 2011 By This review is from: Samsung Galaxy S Wifi 5.0 Media Player (Electronics) The unit itself came in a nice box, that is reminiscent of the box for the iPhone 4. It has a top piece that slides off of the rest of the box, with the unit on top, and then all of the associated items are beneath it. The unit comes with a pair of in-ear headphones as well as a miniUSB to USB, a power adapter, and a quick start manual. The unit comes with a minimal amount of charge in the battery, and therefore, you will want to plug it in immediately and charge it for about 8 hours before running it off of pure battery.
The Galaxy S Wifi 5.0 has, as the name would suggest, a 5.0 inch diagonal screen. This is much larger than most phones and other touch screen devices that you may have(other than, of course, a tablet). Before you buy the unit, you will want to try out how a 5 inch device will feel in your hands. A good unit to try something like this out on would be a Dell Streak(if you know someone with that particular device). The screen is 800x480 in pixel resolution,... Read more
